Stories from Yazidi life
The stories follow Yazidi children and their families through the year: painting eggs and hanging flowers on the door for Çarşema Sor, the Yazidi New Year, welcoming the Tawûs to the village, and a first visit to Lalish. They give children a picture of their own heritage that they rarely find in other books.
Each story is a short picture book made for reading aloud together or, for older children, reading alone.
Read in your family’s language
Most stories come in five editions: Kurmanji in Latin script (Hawar), Kurmanji in Arabic script, Arabic, German and English. Switch the language from the story page, so a child in Germany and their grandparents in Shingal can read the same story.
A reader made for small hands
- One page per screen, with the picture on top and the words below. The text never covers the picture.
- A row of dots shows how far you are. A tap on the edge of the page turns it.
- Large, clear text that adjusts to the screen, on phones and on iPad.
- Reading themes for daytime and bedtime: white, sepia, dark and black.
- Finishing a story counts towards your daily reading streak and earns points.
Ages and what is coming
Today the stories are written for children aged 3 to 5. Stories for ages 6 to 8, 9 to 12 and 13 and up are being added, and the app shows each child the stories for their age group.
How the stories are made
Many of the stories are created with the help of AI tools, starting from authentic Yazidi books and traditions. The app labels every AI-assisted story on its book page, so parents always know.
